Community Outreach and Support Services
Public safety is a shared responsibility. Preventing crime takes more than enforcement — it takes communication, transparency, and a real partnership with the community we protect.
Through our outreach initiatives and support services, we work side-by-side with residents, business owners, and youth to enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods.
Community Programs & Initiatives
We host and participate in a few annual programs designed to build positive relationships and support families across the city:
- Annual Holiday Events: Seasonal charity programs where officers partner with local businesses to provide gifts and necessities to children and families in need.
- Neighborhood Crime Prevention: Informational meetings and partnerships with local neighborhood groups to discuss crime trends, home security strategies, and neighborhood safety improvements.
Property & Business Safety Services
To help protect your property and provide peace of mind, our department offers several routine support services directly to residents and local business owners:
1. Vacation House Checks
Planning a trip away from home? You can request a temporary Vacation House Check. While you are gone, patrol officers will periodically drive by and check your home’s exterior for signs of forced entry or unusual activity, such as open doors or broken windows. Vacation House Checks are provided as a courtesy on a periodic, best-effort basis. They are not a substitute for occupied-home security measures and do not guarantee that your property will be free of criminal activity while you are away.
Request a Vacation House Check: Residents can fill out the online request form or visit the police department lobby during business hours.
2. Business Security Surveys
Local business owners can request an on-site security assessment. An officer will walk your property with you to evaluate lighting, camera placements, lock security, and physical layout, providing tailored recommendations to reduce the risk of burglary or shoplifting.
Business Security Surveys are provided as a courtesy to highlight opportunities for improvement. They do not guarantee protection against burglary, theft, or other criminal activity.
