You’ve probably scrolled past a dozen recruiting posts that all sound the same: stock photos, vague promises, a line about being a "forward-thinking" agency. We’re going to skip that and just tell you what’s actually true.
Here’s what we can tell you instead: if you’re just starting out and trying to figure out how to pay for a police academy you haven’t even been accepted into yet, we can help with that. If you’re a few years into a career somewhere bigger, busier, and more expensive, and you’re wondering if there’s a version of this job that doesn’t burn you out, we’d like to talk.
Modern Gear, Real Police Work
You grew up with technology built into nearly everything you do, and there’s no reason the job should feel like it’s stuck in a different decade. We’ve already built that into how we work: a certified drone program for search operations and scene support, mobile data computers in every patrol car, a computer-aided dispatch system that gets you to calls faster, digital records management instead of file cabinets, and in-car and body camera systems used throughout patrol operations. This is a department that uses the tools that actually exist today, not the ones from a training video filmed before some of our newest hires were born.
Two Ways In
We hear two different things from the people who reach out to us, depending on where they are in life, so we built two different paths in.
If you’re just starting out and ready to begin a career, but the idea of funding your own way through a police academy before you’ve even been hired anywhere is the only thing standing in your way, ask about our Academy Sponsorship. We hire you first and sponsor you through certification, so the cost of getting started isn’t the reason you walk away from this career before it begins.
If you’re already a certified officer somewhere else, tired of the commute, the cost of living, or a department that stopped feeling like a team, our Lateral Entry program means you don’t start over. You bring your certification and your experience, and we get you on the road faster, in a small town on Florida’s Nature Coast where your paycheck actually goes somewhere and the calls you run aren’t the same five blocks of chaos every night.
We Don’t Let You Fail
New officers succeed here because of how the program is built, not by accident. Like the Field Training Officer program described on our Patrol Division page, every recruit is paired with an experienced officer through a structured, multi-phase process built around coaching, clear standards, and consistent feedback. You’re expected to meet those standards, and you’ll have real support in getting there. What we’re watching for is whether you take instruction, apply it, and keep getting better, not whether you arrive with nothing left to learn.
What You’re Joining
Every person in this department, sworn or civilian, is expected to live by four things, and one of them matters more than the rest.
Dignity comes first, and it’s not a word on a wall. It’s how we expect you to treat the people you serve, even on their worst day, and just as much, it’s how we expect this department to treat you. That means real feedback instead of public correction, supervisors who explain the "why" and not just the “do this,” and a culture where asking for help isn’t held against you. If you’ve worked somewhere that didn’t operate that way, you’ll notice the difference here.
Integrity means we tell the truth, including about our own mistakes, because covering something up always costs more than it saves. Respect means we don’t assume the worst about the people we serve, or about each other. Courage is part physical, and part the willingness to say something’s wrong and fix it, even when it would be easier not to.
